Erin Alles

Erin Alles is a painter, performance artist, and DJ from the Coachella Valley of Southern California. They received their BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths University of London and graduated from the Alonzo King LINES Ballet training program in San Francisco. They paint records of alchemical transformation, utilising methods of divination and a palette of extracted body fluids, pigmented chemicals, and organic matter. Brushes, bare hands, and sharp tools bruise, cut, and scrape surfaces; a process that visualises intense and painful physical exploration. Their painting practice is informed by their background in movement and choreography and vice versa, summoning recursive, corporeal feedback loops to generate more material. They’ve exhibited work in galleries in the United States and the UK, including multiple performances for London Gallery Weekend and San Fransiscos’s Young Choreographer Forum, and starred in films including HELL by Tom Brett for Nowness.
